Monthly Thought-Provoking Question: December

I've mentioned before how much I love Christmas. And since the season is in full-swing, I wanted to make the December TPQ centered around just that.

Obviously, we can say that having those we love around us is the ideal Christmas.
But, I want to know that separate from family and loved ones (and our wonderful men overseas) what is one thing you just HAVE to have at Christmas?
And what is something you aspire to have someday, that you don't right now?

The one thing I need at Christmas is egg nog. I love egg nog. Sometimes I'll mix in a little Baileys, but mostly just a tall class of thick, creamy goodness is enough to make my Christmas Eve delightful.

My aspirational Christmas?
I want to host Christmas in my own home. I want to have a home that allows me to have a decorative tree for display, like these:

And another tree downstairs for the colored lights, the Minnesota Twins ornaments and all the tacky (and AMAZING) handmade reindeer and plastic cartoon ornaments that the kids love.

That's the kind of Christmas I want when I grow up!
Happy December, ya'll!

Monthly Thought-Provoking Question: November

Once again, I am slow on the trigger in asking my monthly question.
Instead of asking a typical holiday-themed question, I actually have something else on my mind:

Tell me about a time where you learned something (not in school or related to an academic field) that surprised, impressed or challenged you. How did you learn it? How has it affected your life today?

My Answer:
My roommates both work in fields that are completely outside my typical comfort zone. One is a social worker who primarily works with GLBT and disenfranchised high-schoolers and the other is a Drug and Alcohol Rehab counselor. Both of them are awesome girls and good at their respective jobs, but every once in-awhile I am faced with learning something knew about them, their jobs and the world we live in.
I don't really have specific examples, but it's a constant learning process for me.
After all, how can one be strong in their beliefs without knowing the beliefs of other first?
I may not always agree, but I can always be grateful for the education I get from the experience.

Monthly Thought-Provoking Question: October 2010

Well, I'm a total blog-slacker. The beginning of October came and went and I forgot to post a new TPQ. I am going to be completely predictable and center my question around the pinnacle of October-nees: Halloween!

What is your favorite Halloween memory?

My answer:
Although I've had many, my favorite is Halloween 1991, when Minnesota had a HUGE blizzard. The blizzard dropped over 8 inches of snow on Halloween night and over 28 inches of snow before the blizzard ended. I remember putting my winter coat, boots, hats, gloves and multiple layers over my cute bunny costume (I was 7 years old) and having my mom drive me door-to-door. We lasted about 10 minutes (or three blocks) before we gave up and went home. Mom made hot-cocoa and we stayed in for the rest of the night.
It might not have been the most ideal Halloween, but it's certainly the most memorable!

Monthly Thought-Provoking Question: September 2010

It's Fall! I LOVE fall! The weather, the clothes, the smells, the food!
In addition to those things, one of my all-time favorite things about fall is
FOOTBALL SEASON

In honor of that, here is this month's TPQ:

Are you a football fan? Do you prefer NFL or college football?
Do you have a favorite team (for either NFL, college, or both?)
And finally, tell me your favorite football memory...
